Our Response to Covid-19
Our protocols and procedures to address Covid concerns
SNUG HAVEN 2021
Summer 2020 at Snug Haven was even better than we had hoped. The resort provided a welcome relief from the outside world for over 50 groups of guests. Several of those families/groups booked cottages more than once this year. For us, it was great to visit with returning guests and always a pleasure to meet new guests who now have joined the Snug Haven family.
We are now taking bookings for next year. We should be open by the end of April or the middle of May in 2021, weather permitting.
Our plan for 2021 is to run the resort in the same manner as we did this past summer: with appropriate social distancing and, when necessary, masking. As new information and/or new protocols are developed, we will follow the recommendations set by the medical researchers and public health professionals.
The cottages will be left to “air out” for at least a day and a half after each rental before we begin the cleaning process. Cottages will be thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected using the same chemicals, devices, and protocols we used this year. In addition to typical cleaners and disinfectants each cottage will be treated with air purifiers using UV-C lights and HEPA filters. We’ve even added vacuums equipped with UV-C lights to our protocol.
All bedding down to and including mattress and pillow protectors will be sent to the local laundromat for professional cleaning, and pillows will be switched out and laundered after each rental. We’ll supply each cottage with towels for the specified number of guests, but there will be no towel exchange during your stay.
Check-ins and check-outs will be noncontact. Your cottage will be ready and open for you at your check-in time. In the very unlikely case you need assistance during your stay, we ask that you contact a member of the Snug Haven staff via phone or email. We no longer have a resort “office.” Please plan to wear a mask if someone on the Snug Haven staff must be within 8 feet of someone in your group. We will be wearing masks as well.
The Hideaway will be treated as a separate entity from the rest of the resort, making it a perfect location for a very private getaway. It has its own front yard, sandy beach, swimming area, and dock. There is room for you to dock a boat or some jet skis and plenty of space to beach some kayaks. As you probably already know, the cottage contains 3 queen bedrooms and 6 bunk beds, stacked in sets of 2. The kitchen contains all major appliances and the living room and dining areas hold all 12 guests comfortably. The Hideaway also has a deck with two picnic tables right outside the dining room doors and a second deck on the beach with ample seating.
The Lodge, Nest, and Retreat will each have a private space on our very large, sandy beach. The Lodge and Nest have small front yard areas and ample space on the beach directly in front of those cottages; space will be reserved for the Retreat to the south of those spaces. Guests may share our C-Dock and protected swim area but should keep at least 10 feet of space between themselves and guests not in their cottage. That is easy enough to do. Those three cottages hold a total of just 22 people, including children and the swim area is approximately 50’ x 75’. We are never really what you would call “crowded” anywhere on the resort. And we will not be allowing unannounced day guests or gatherings of any kind, which will hold those numbers down.
The Lodge can hold up to 8 guests (2 queen bedrooms and 2 double beds in an open loft area); the Nest can hold up to 8 (2 queen bedrooms with private baths upstairs, a private queen bedroom walk-out suite on the lower level, and a day bed on the main floor that opens into two twin beds); and the Retreat sleeps up to 6 (one queen bedroom on the main floor and two twin beds and a double bed in a semi-open area on the second floor). All cottages have fully equipped kitchens and either window AC units or central air.
Watercraft of all types have been eliminated for the foreseeable future. You are welcome to bring your own boats, kayaks, SUPs, and other water “toys.” There is room for at least 2 (and possibly 3) boats alongside the C-Dock for guests in the Nest, Lodge, and Retreat.
Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring a trailer for ORVs or Jeeps. We can accommodate single-place trailers but the super large haulers are too big for our parking areas, especially during the peak summer weeks when all of the cottages are full. We cannot accommodate RVs or 5th wheels of any size and the only tents allowed are small sun shelters to protect you on the beach.
It’s not clear what improvements we’ll be making between now and next summer, but we’re always working to keep Snug Haven as up-to-date and comfortable as possible. Immediate plans call for more sand on the beach, some excavation work, and tree trimming and removal. We are looking into the possibility of remodeling one or more kitchens to accommodate installation of dishwashers.
We will not be taking weekend rentals at this time. All reservations require a minimum of four nights; full weeks or longer are still definitely an option but all reservations will be staggered to allow 2 days for each cottage to be thoroughly prepared for the next guests. Pick your dates and we’ll work around your reservation as we take reservations for other cottages. As always, you’re welcome to rent multiple cottages or even the entire resort.
We’re asking for a 10% deposit when you book to hold the cottage(s) with the signed lease, 40% by January 15, and the 50% balance no later than 30 days before your arrival. Your reservation will be considered secured when we receive the first deposit and your signed lease agreement. We will notify you when those items are in our possession.
We look forward to seeing you in 2021.
